PALO ALTO, March 25, 2020 – Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international technology and energy law firm, announced today that Palo Alto- and San Francisco-based chair of the Palo Alto Intellectual Property Department Eliot Williams was selected by the Daily Journal for their 2020 list of “Top Intellectual Property Lawyers” in California. This is Mr. Williams’ fourth consecutive year being recognized.
Daily Journal’s annual list of Top IP Lawyers is compiled from hundreds of nominations submitted by lawyers statewide, with the honorees selected by editors based on the impact of their work in intellectual property.
The journal highlights Mr. Williams has appeared as counsel in over 160 PTAB trials and is retained to handle the PTAB aspect of high-stakes competitor litigation.
“The [PTAB] board wants lawyers to argue the details. You’re getting pounded with highly technical questions on patents and their prior art,” Mr. Williams said. “That’s one of the fun things about the practice. You marshal your arguments in the most effective way -- and it’s very different from how you would present before a jury.”
Mr. Williams has over twenty years of experience as a creative advocate and practical advisor to his clients. He has experience with disputed IP matters, in federal courts throughout the country and in the Patent Trial and Appeal Board of the United States Patent Office. Mr. Williams has testified on patent law before the Judiciary Committee of the United States House of Representatives and has taught patent litigation as an adjunct assistant professor of law.
