PALO ALTO, November 4, 2019 – Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading technology and energy law firm, announced today the addition of Cheryl A. Cauley, a prominent trial, technology and commercial litigation lawyer, as a partner in the firm’s Palo Alto office.
“Cheryl is a seasoned lawyer with deep roots throughout the Bay Area. Her experience in complex commercial, business and technology litigation builds on our strong momentum in California and brings additional depth to our trial and technology capabilities across the firm,” said John Martin, Managing Partner of Baker Botts.
Ms. Cauley, like Baker Botts’ most recent new partner hire Jonathan Patchen, comes from respected Bay Area litigation boutique, Taylor & Patchen. She is a triple Stanford University graduate, earning her B.A. with Distinction in History, an M.A. in Sociology, and her J.D. from Stanford. She was the Associate Managing Editor of the Stanford Law Review and a volunteer at the Stanford Community Law Clinic. Ms. Cauley’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation and intellectual property disputes. She has experience trying cases from their inception through their appeal in district and appellate courts across the country, representing clients in fields such as internet search and advertising, wireless communications and biotechnology.
“Cheryl is a trial lawyer, through and through, and we are thrilled to have her join our team,” said Van Beckwith, firmwide Litigation Department Chair of Baker Botts. “She is the fourth litigation partner to join us in the Bay Area in the last month. She follows technology trial partner Jonathan Patchen as well as new Environmental, White Collar and Investigations partners Lily Chinn and Matt Baker, demonstrating our commitment to fielding a world-class team that advances and protects our clients’ interests in the courtroom and beyond.”
“I am excited to join a global litigation team with a true trial practice that provides a large platform for me to better serve my clients in the technology and life sciences sectors,” said Ms. Cauley.
The lawyers in Baker Botts’ Litigation Department bring business savvy to our clients’ most critical disputes, including across the spectrum of technology litigation. Our track record of results ranges from early-stage dismissals to multibillion-dollar trial wins to appellate victories before the U.S. Supreme Court. Our success has not gone unnoticed, with 43 litigation practice rankings in the Chambers and Legal 500 directories alone.
