DALLAS, HOUSTON - October 2, 2019 - Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international technology and energy law firm, is proud to announce that Litigation Partner Van Beckwith, Intellectual Property Partner Christa Brown-Sanford and Corporate Partner Travis Wofford have been named to Texas Lawyer’s 2019 list of Texas Trailblazers. The elite list recognizes individuals for being agents of change who have made significant marks on the practice, policy and technological advancement of their practice.
The publication highlights Mr. Beckwith, Firmwide Chair of the Litigation Department and a first-chair trial attorney with almost 30 years of experience, for reimagining the interplay between technology, support services and client experiences, resulting in the Dispute Technology & Services Group (DTS). DTS pulled staff attorneys, e-discovery counsel, document review lawyers, paralegals, trial graphic designers, into a single "geographically agnostic" team that can rapidly deploy. We are quickly delivering technology and services to solve client problems and "we are untethering where a person sits in the Baker Botts system,” said Mr. Beckwith.
Ms. Brown-Sanford, Deputy Chair of the Intellectual Property Department with a strong patent practice, is recognized for implementing and overseeing a talent management program that integrates data and analysis into monitoring the work and training of the department’s associates, professionals, and paralegals across offices in eight cities. With the information gained from an annual survey to determine their experiences, and monthly tracking of how associates, professionals, and paralegals are being used, the various timekeepers are being staffed on matters across the department to facilitate better utilization and more varied experiences. In its second year, Ms. Brown-Sanford has pushed the data to a user-friendly computer dashboard with the potential to expand to other departments within the firm. With this talent management program, " there's a lot more availability to the folks here to help how they're building and running their practices,” said Ms. Brown-Sanford.
Mr. Wofford, an experienced corporate partner in the energy and TMT sectors, is recognized for his work with renewable energy companies, in particular equity and debt financing in solar energy and energy technology. Notably, Mr. Wofford advises Sunnova Energy, which works with dealers to install solar panels and energy storage systems in homes, to raise capital by securitizing the company's service contracts. He also represented the company in its initial public offering this year – the first solar IPO for a Texas company and the first in the United States since 2015. "The Texas economy is only going to get stronger with renewable energy,” said Mr. Wofford.
