“Our aim is to offer a simulation-based course that will both teach students the law and let them build practical skills for patent litigation,” said Mr. Stacy. “The best way to learn the necessary skills for patent litigation is to actually practice them in the safety of a classroom.”
The University of California Hastings College of Law is a top-tier law school with an IP specialization designed to prepare for an intellectual-property career. The school integrates rigorous academics with hands-on practice and is redefining legal education through experiential, interdisciplinary, and international approach to the law. IP-concentration students are offered courses taught by practitioners from boutique and multi-national firms and in-house counsel, in addition to full-time UC Hastings faculty.
Mr. Stacy, recognized as a "renowned patent litigator,” has 15+ experience as adjunct professor teaching in numerous law schools on all areas of IP, including patent law, patent litigation, and copyright law. Earlier this year, he co-authored the first PTAB Digest Deskbook through Lexis Nexis, which highlights the intersection between Patent Office litigation and Federal court litigation that arose after the passage of the America Invents Act. This book will serve as the foundation for the new law course.
