Baker Botts Fuels the Cooperation between Startups and Corporates at London Ecosummit

Media Alert
LONDON, October 4, 2016 – Baker Botts, L.L.P., a leading international law firm, announced today that it is a co-sponsor of the 4th Ecosummit in London on 11 October 2016.
Ecosummit is Europe’s leading conference for startups, investors and corporates in the green energy and clean technology sectors. The conference creates a physical marketplace to enable personal meetings and long-term relationships in a relaxed and productive atmosphere. The smart green capital is a buzzing startup hub, providing access to the UK market and serving as the bridge to America. Ecosummit fosters startups and helps corporates accelerate open innovation and corporate venturing in energy, mobility, IoT, AI, circular economy and cities.

“We are entering a new era of clean energy growth that is fuelling future opportunities in light of the Paris agreement. Corporate venturing is very active in the clean technology space now,” said Neil Foster, Corporate Partner in London with Baker Botts.

Mr. Foster added, “Given the downturn in oil prices, innovation is also high on the agenda of global energy companies, with many creating specialist corporate venturing arms. Corporate venturing can be used to scout for new technologies, but also for potential acquisition targets.” He continued, “After all, M&A is very costly and can be high risk. If corporates get to know startups early in their development it reduces risk, can lead to earlier M&A and even if an acquisition is not made, the corporation has potential access for licensing or partnering deals.”

“Ecosummit is pleased to provide a forum for open innovation and corporate venturing to be debated by startups and corporates and Baker Botts is playing a key role making these often complex partnerships and agreements better understood,” commented Jan Michael Hess, CEO, Ecosummit.

Neil Foster and a group of leading experts will share their insights with budding entrepreneurs on a panel debate entitled “Managing open innovation and corporate venturing to optimise the cooperation with startups”:

• Jan Michael Hess (Moderator, CEO, Ecosummit)
• Neil Foster (Corporate Partner, Baker Botts)
• Dr. Inken Braunschmidt (innogy, Corporate)
• Leonie Baneke (Eneco Innovation & Ventures, Corporate VC)
• Knut Hechtfischer (Ubitricity, Startup)
