WASHINGTON, October 27, 2014 -- Baker Botts Intellectual Property Partner Mark Whitaker has been elected as the first Vice President for the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA).
Whitaker, who has been a member of AIPLA for about 15 years, was elected 1st VP for the one-year term that commenced on October 25, 2014. With this position, he will continue to serve on both the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for the Association. In addition to the internal work of the Association (Education, Member Services, etc.), the AIPLA has a strong advocacy role and works closely with the USPTO, Senate and House subcommittees on intellectual property, executive branch, and the judiciary.
Whitaker is based in the Washington office. He is the Chair of the firm’s International Trade Commission (“ITC”) Practice and his practice focuses on patent and trademark litigation and counseling in the United States and around the world.

I look forward to helping the Association lead the way to a better understanding of these issues through education, advocacy, and global harmonization to ensure the protection of innovation for generations to come, ” Whitaker said on his election.
The American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) is a national bar association constituted primarily of lawyers in private and corporate practice, in government service, and in the academic community, with approximately 15,000 members.
