LONDON, April 15, 2011 -- In a series of recent LNG Journal articles, Baker Botts L.L.P. Partners Hamish McArdle and John White, senior associate Hannah Longley and associate Oliver Byrne provide insight into some of the legal issues, problems and possible solutions that should be considered by Floating LNG project participants.
In the March issue of LNG Journal, McArdle and Byrne cover the applications of the traditional Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel (FPSO) and its variants the FSO, FSU and FPS. The article reviews the differences and parallels between floating LNG production and storage and floating crude oil and liquids production and storage with emphasis on some of the key legal provisions in the contracts for vessel and processing facilities construction, vessel charter and its operation and maintenance.
The March article, “Legal issues to consider in structuring of new Floating LNG developments,” is available here.
In the April issue of LNG Journal, White and Longley analyze legal issues to consider in floating LNG venture structuring. The legal and contractual framework, which traditionally surrounds the development and production of a gas field, is considered in their article, taking into account applicable laws, granting instruments and joint operating agreements, with particular emphasis on some of the main structuring options for an FLNG project. The article also notes certain parallels with oil FPSOs and traditional land-based liquefied natural gas plants.
The April article, “Analysing upstream joint ventures in context of FLNG project development,” is available here.
