Baker Botts Names New Special Counsel for 2011

HOUSTON-- New Special Counsel at Baker Botts L.L.P. effective January, 1, 2011, were announced today by Managing Partner Walt Smith. These lawyers represent a number of departments and are based in the firm’s Houston, Moscow, New York and Washington offices.

“Today’s announcement is in recognition of the skilled legal counsel these lawyers provide our clients each day on a broad spectrum of issues,” Smith said.

Houston

Reagan Fibbe, Intellectual Property
Reagan Fibbe has significant experience in technology licensing and intellectual property aspects of corporate transactions. Her practice also focuses on all matters relating to trademarks, including U.S. and international trademark clearance, prosecution, enforcement, licensing, assignments and litigation, as well as on copyright registration and enforcement and Internet-related matters.

Elizabeth Piland, Tax
Elizabeth Piland counsels clients on executive compensation and employee benefits. Her practice focuses on negotiating the employee benefit aspects of mergers, acquisitions and redomestications, drafting documents and advising clients on issues relating to executive and director compensation and related securities filings, including section 409A, section 280G, section 162(m), stock options, restricted stock and other equity awards.

Chris Pratt, Tax
Chris Pratt practices primarily in the area of employee benefits and executive compensation. He has significant experience in the employee and executive compensation area, including design, structure and implementation of incentive plans and non-qualified compensation plans, as well as executive employment, severance and consulting agreements and compliance with Section 409A deferred compensation rules.

Susan Thomas, Litigation
Susan Thomas represents numerous large and small companies in personal injury and business disputes. Her trial practice currently focuses on toxic tort, pharmaceutical and other products liability litigation. Ms. Thomas serves as Union Carbide Corporation’s national coordinating counsel for benzene litigation and oversees the defense of all of Union Carbide’s pending benzene cases.

Moscow

Konstantin Garmonin, Corporate
Konstantin Garmonin advises clients on a wide range of international financing transactions, including project finance transactions and public-private partnerships. He has expertise in the infrastructure, energy, real estate and financial markets sectors. Mr. Garmonin also regularly advises clients on cross-border acquisitions and regulatory and general corporate matters.

New York

Rebecca Hammerbeck, Litigation
Rebecca Hammerbeck’s practice focuses on scientific and medical issues in complex products liability cases. Ms. Hammerbeck currently serves as science counsel in mass tort litigation involving welding products. In these cases, she analyzes medical and scientific evidence and formulates strategies to rebut claims of disease causation.

Steve Lendaris, Intellectual Property
Steve Lendaris’ practice focuses on life science patent prosecution, freedom to operate analysis and the drafting of non-infringement and invalidity opinions, as well as intellectual property litigation. Mr. Lendaris has represented clients ranging from small start-ups to large multinational corporations. He has particular experience with counseling clients in the fields of genomic and proteomic analysis.

Washington

Bill Foster, Intellectual Property
Bill Foster is a registered patent attorney focusing on patent counseling and related litigation and prosecution matters. He has experience in providing infringement/invalidity analyses, preparing and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications and assisting in all aspects of patent litigation, including an appellate practice.

Adam Haubenreich, Corporate
Adam Haubenreich practices corporate law, with a focus on securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance. He represents issuers and investment banks in initial public offerings, secondary equity offerings and debt offerings, as well as assisting companies with general corporate issues.

Michael McGovern, Environmental
Michael McGovern practices primarily in environmental litigation, including cases involving CERCLA/Superfund, petroleum contamination and toxic torts. He regularly handles environmental insurance claims, breach of contract, warranty or lease claims involving environmental issues, Endangered Species Act challenges and NEPA claims.
