Baker Botts L.L.P. Names New Special Counsel for 2009

HOUSTON, January 8, 2009 -- New Special Counsel at Baker Botts L.L.P. effective January, 1, 2009, were announced today by Managing Partner Walt Smith. These lawyers represent a number of the firm’s departments and are based in Austin, Houston, London, Moscow and Washington offices.

The new Special Counsel are:

Austin
Allison Bowers, Litigation
Allison Bowers primarily handles commercial and employment litigation and appeals, and she represents clients in state and federal courts throughout Texas at both the trial and appellate level. She also provides legal counsel in proceedings before various federal and state agencies with jurisdiction over employment issues.

Houston
Gail Foster, Litigation
Gail Foster’s trial practice focuses primarily on complex multiparty commercial litigation, with an emphasis on energy-related matters. Other representations have involved general contract disputes, employment issues, environmental remediation claims, securities class actions, intellectual property and defense of wrongful death cases. She has tried lawsuits in state and federal courts throughout Texas, and has handled appeals in various Texas and federal appellate courts.

Nancy Itnyre, Tax
Nancy Itnyre has practiced primarily in the area of employee benefits since 2001. She has broad experience with all facets of employee benefits law, including the design and implementation of employee benefit plans, tax qualification issues, and reporting and disclosure requirements.

London
Andy Grubert, Intellectual Property
Andy Grubert’s practice primarily focuses on patent application preparation and prosecution (particularly in the U.S. and Europe), patent licensing negotiations, and patent portfolio management. He has served as manager of one of the U.S. IP departments of Siemens Corporation and in Germany as manager of the Siemens AG patent department responsible for automotive technology.

Hamish McArdle, Global Projects
Hamish McArdle has experience in energy and related U.K. and international projects and privatisations, and advises clients on a range of aspects of large-scale energy and corporate matters, in particular those associated with the upstream and midstream oil and gas sectors.

Moscow
Katya Akkush, Global Projects
Ekaterina Akkush is an experienced oil and gas and natural resources lawyer advising on international transactions including mergers and acquisitions and joint venture arrangements, upstream operations, supply contracts and oilfield service agreements. Ms. Akkush also focuses on large scale international transactions in all market sectors, not just energy.

Washington, D.C.
Michael Pattillo, Litigation
Michael Pattillo focuses on appellate litigation and motions practice and issue analysis at the trial level. He has represented clients in the U.S. Supreme Court, federal and state courts of appeals, and federal district courts. His practice covers a variety of areas, including criminal law, securities fraud, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, federal preemption, and state tort law.
