Based on the number of patent suits law firms filed in federal district court in 2006 that were still active in February 2007, Baker Botts’ IP practice group climbed to No. 7 in this year’s survey among firms representing defendants. In 2006, the Firm ranked No. 18.
In the “Grand Total” survey for this year, Baker Botts placed No. 11 compared to No. 17 in the 2006 survey.
Also, IPLB polled The World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies (compiled by BusinessWeek and the Boston Consulting Group) to develop a comprehensive list of law firms that “protect the IP of the world’s most innovative companies.”
Baker Botts placed in the second tier under the “Patent Prosecution” heading with three (3) mentions; fourth in the “IP Litigation” category with four (4) mentions; and second with a total of seven (7) mentions in the “Firms With the Most Mentions” listing.
Bart Showalter, chair of the IP practice, attributes the rise in the IPLB annual review to “a commitment to excellence, innovation and creativity in the field of IP law and a relentless focus on our clients.”
“While these and other such rankings are good, there is still much more we can do to develop and service the IP needs of our clients in the market,” Showalter said.
