Release
HOUSTON, November 29, 2007 -- Results published today by Chambers Global 2008 list Baker Botts in Band 1 in Projects & Energy: Oil & Gas/Global and U.S.

In addition to the top category for Oil & Gas, the Firm is ranked among the world’s leading law firms globally in Arbitration (Band 4), Intellectual Property (Band 3), Projects (Band 4), and Projects & Energy: North America (Band 2).

Five lawyers from the Firm were ranked No. 1 in their practice areas:

* David Asmus, Energy & Gas (Transactional)/United States;

* Evan R. Berlack, International Trade (Export Controls & Economic Sanctions)/United States;

* Antony Higginson, Energy: Oil & Gas/United Kingdom;

* Mark Rowley, General Business Law: Overseas Experts/Azerbaijan; and

* Irv Terrell, Litigation -- Litigation: Trial Lawyers/United States.

In their editorial commentary concerning the Firm’s Oil & Gas Band 1 ranking, Chambers researchers stated: “An international force in the oil and gas market, this firm’s foundations lie with its impressive Houston practice. Clients speak of its ‘top-notch talent and outstanding service,’ particularly endorsing its international oil and gas projects and transactions and LNG expertise. Sources rated its ability to appropriately staff transactions with lawyers of the right level of experience, as well as its facility in handling cutting-edge deals. The lawyers’ cross-border upstream capability is finely honed, and clients highlight its ‘superb country-to-country negotiating skills.’”

The move of the Firm’s Intellectual Property group into the Global/Band 3 ranking prompted the following commentary from Chambers researchers: “Recognised as delivering high-quality work in New York and as ‘a formidable force’ in Texas, this firm is acknowledged for offering full resources in IP. It remains active predominantly on the patent side, demonstrating strong skills in physical and computer sciences patents.”

Reviewing the Firm’s international arbitration capabilities, Chambers researchers noted the following: “One of a number of energy-focused firms which currently have a relatively equal footing in the arbitration market, Baker Botts is perhaps most easily distinguished from its rivals by its superior geographical spread. Outside the traditional Houston base the firm can claim strong offerings in Washington, DC and London, with the latter winning particular plaudits...”
